Navigating changing dates requires a steady partner
The introduction of the EU Regulation on Deforestation-free Products (EUDR) created a new and complex compliance landscape. Originally planned for enforcement in 2024, the regulation has been postponed multiple times and is now set to apply from December 2026. The regulation requires companies to prove that certain commodities do not originate from deforested land after 2020. This includes the need to collect and validate precise geolocation data to verify the origin and condition of forest areas.
For JYSK, the scale added significant complexity. With approximately 1,800–2,000 affected articles and around 15,000 products handled annually, compliance required a structured and scalable approach. While JYSK already had strong processes for due diligence, the introduction of geolocation requirements added a new layer of complexity. Handling this manually across multiple data sources and satellite tools was not feasible at scale.
Therefore, osapiens was selected as the system foundation. However, a successful implementation required extensive design work and expert guidance from NTT DATA. JYSK needed to act proactively establishing a structured approach early rather than reacting to changing deadlines under pressure.
We quickly realized we needed a system to handle this. Otherwise, we would have needed people trained in satellite image analysis.
NTT DATA brought structure, clarity, and confidence into a complex and evolving compliance project.
From regulation to operation
NTT DATA worked closely with JYSK to design and implement a solution where EUDR-compliance became embedded in daily operations. The approach was collaborative and highly structured. Through workshops involving compliance, IT, and business stakeholders, NTT DATA established a shared understanding of requirements and ensured alignment across systems and processes.
“Project management and their knowledge of EUDR and osapiens made a real difference for us.”
Søren Lip ter Beek, Compliance Manager, JYSK.
Rather than replacing existing capabilities, the solution integrated osapiens into JYSK’s current systems and preserved established supplier processes. NTT DATA translated EUDR requirements into a pragmatic and tailored setup aligned with JYSK’s data and workflows.
A central component was an automated, API-driven compliance engine. When suppliers upload geolocation data, it is automatically transferred to osapiens, validated, and returned as compliance-ready documentation. This eliminated the need to manually validate data across multiple platforms and created a consistent, scalable process.
The solution was delivered on time and according to plan, ensuring JYSK could move forward with confidence despite regulatory uncertainty.
Automated and future-ready compliance
The solution enables JYSK to manage large volumes of data and products efficiently while maintaining compliance with EUDR requirements.
Although enforcement deadlines have shifted, EUDR remains a business-critical requirement. With a validated solution in place, JYSK has reduced risk and gained the flexibility to adapt as the regulation evolves.
The project demonstrates NTT DATA’s ability to deliver end-to-end EUDR solutions. By combining regulatory expertise with hands-on implementation experience, NTT DATA provides the structure, guidance, and confidence organizations need to move from uncertainty to execution.
“It has saved us a lot of headcounts. We simply wouldn’t have been able to handle this manually.”
Michelle Tang Jensen, Compliance Team Leader, JYSK.
Estimates indicated that several additional employees would have been required to manage compliance without the system. Beyond efficiency gains, the structured approach provided by NTT DATA created clarity and confidence throughout the
organization.
With a validated solution in place, JYSK is now positioned to work proactively focusing on supplier onboarding, improving integrations, and increasing automation over time. At the same time, the project highlights the importance of having an experienced implementation partner.
“Implementing osapiens without a partner is difficult. We would clearly recommend having one.”
Søren Lip ter Beek, Compliance Manager, JYSK.
